Training & Education

We support many aspects of training and education to improve understanding of MS.

We offer bursaries and other support for MS professionals to attend conferences, workshops and other meetings. This enables them to share their expertise and learn from others working on similar or complementary areas of MS reserach.

ms conferences

MS Research funds researcher's attendance at specialist conferences nationally and internationally. Learning about new developments in treatment and presenting new research to peers is vital in understanding and improving treatment. Some examples include:

Tania Burge has attended numerous conferences funded by MS Research including Rehabilitation in MS (euRIMS), where she gave a presentation on her Masters studies of physiotherapy for more disabled MS patients. This conference showcases approaches to dealing with problems brought on by MS that can be varied and unique. Access to these events is extremely beneficial to Tania's work as an MS physiotherapist, where she tries to find new ways to improve the quality of life of people living with MS.

The MS Research funded PhD student, Christelle Langley and her supervisor Jade Tai of CRIC Bristol were invited alongside other members of ImSpire to present work at a special session on MS of the French national Neurology conference in Toulouse. Talks included understanding brain activity during fatigue, the importance of exercise and current information on FACETS.

Finally, a University of Sheffield Medical student, Sona Mistry, was funded to attend the American Academy of Neurology in Los Angeles to present her Master's degree work on stem cell studies in MS.

iMSpire

iMSpire (International MS Partnership In Research) is a formally constituted research partnership between the University of West Paris, Nanterre, La Defense, the University of Bournemouth and University of Bristol as well as Southmead and Poole hospitals. Interest in this collaboration arose in 2012 when French researchers sought to translate and test FACETS designed by University of Bournemouth researchers and tested in Bristol, Southampton and Poole.

MS Specialist Physiotherapy

MS Research contribute toward facilities based at the Brain Centre in Southmead Hospital enabling us to support research nationwide. We also fund a Physiotherapy Clinical Assistant and our MS research team's Specialist Research Physiotherapist who work alongside the BrAMS (Bristol and Avon MS) clinical centre's MS Specialist Physiotherapist. This has enabled us to develop the next level of treatment and research projects. Supported by the neurological team at BrAMS these roles will help to further promote our commitment to listening, learning and acting and to fund research and develop strategies to translate research into action for better treatment.

Meet Tania Burge - MS Specialist Physiotherapist.
