Speech and swallowing problems

Problems with talking and swallowing tend to occur together and are usually only seen in later phases of MS.

Referral to a speech therapist can help with speech problems and additional care when eating can help with swallowing difficulties. A dietician can help with food preparation if needed.

Occasionally speech problems can be associated with breathing problems. These need to be assessed appropriately by a respiratory expert or physiotherapist.
