Emotional changes

Many people find their mental adjustment to an MS diagnosis hard. Learning to manage the variable symptoms that MS may bring can be mentally and emotionally challenging.

Everyone reacts to MS differently and the condition can varies a lot from person to person. Sometimes, MS symptoms can contribute to longer-term issues like depression and anxiety.

Emotional symptoms are very personal, so treatment options will vary. Help is available from various sources, such as MS clinical teams, clinical psychologists, peer support groups and talking therapies. A referral from a neurologist or GP is useful to explore these options.
