spasticity

Spasticity is quite a common symptom in MS and refers to stiffness generally in leg muscles but sometimes affecting other joints. To some extent spasticity maybe used to help overcome muscle weakness which can be beneficial. When spasticity is troublesome there are a number of drug treatments that  can be used, a physiotherapist can assess the level and type of spasticity and recommend suitable exercises and other treatments.

More severe muscle stiffness may need more intensive treatment and occasionally botox may be used to allow the muscles to relax.
